About

“My atypical background and broad interests may seem surprising, but I bring a genuine passion to all of my work and relentlessly pursue excellence in every field or endeavor undertaken.” — Mark Rodrieg

The Artistic Journey

Mark’s artistic and musical foundation began under the mentorship of legendary flutist Albert Tipton, and he later served as Principal Flutist of the Aspen Festival Orchestra before expanding his focus into composition and multimedia art.

An active chamber musician, he has collaborated with leading conductors and artists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Matt Haimovitz, Leonard Slatkin, Sergiu Comissiona, James DePriest, Joseph Kalichstein, the Paris-based Ensemble InterContemporain, Maja Bogdanovic, Julien Gernay, Emily Klein, Kanon Wada, and Yuri Kubota.

His rigorous creative and academic background spans world-class institutions:

  • Rice University (Shepherd School of Music): B.A., studying under Albert Tipton.
  • Princeton University: M.A. and Presidential Fellow, completing composition studies with Milton Babbitt and Claudio Spies.
  • Paris Schola Cantorum: Artist Diploma, studying with Fredric Werner, Igor Lasko, and Jean-Jacques Werner, with additional studies alongside Amy Wiggs.
  • Cinema & Film Studies: Advanced coursework integrated across his time at Rice, Princeton, and Columbia Universities.

A Renaissance Perspective

Mark’s artistic output is deeply informed by a diverse background outside the concert hall and art spaces. He holds a J.D. from Columbia University and spent more than a distinguished decade in international law, serving as a Wall Street attorney, General Counsel for a venture capital firm, Deputy General Counsel – International for the Lagardère Groupe, and a Law Professor at the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po).

Prior to his legal career, Mark served as a U.S. Naval Officer, graduating first in his class, and later competed internationally as a member of the USA Fencing Team (2007–2011), representing the United States in multiple World Cup competitions.

This sustained pursuit of excellence across disciplines fuels his creative work, bringing a unique precision, intellectual depth, and global perspective to his art. Today, he balances his time between international legal consulting and active artistic production from his base in Paris.
